WALKING CITY. REVIVING FLANEUR
FROM CONGESTION TO HEALTHY DENSITY
The new Master plan for Seunsangga Citywalk proposed by our team has been developed from the understanding that city, especially metropolis, is the only way human race can survive in this age. A city is the only form of dwelling that is sustainable and will ensure human life on earth, into the future.
But due to the biased demand of efficiency and productivity, the development of cities has reached the inevitable state where everyday space has lost its basic foremost meaning of accommodating life. City has become a place where human race has become a mere element in the transaction of commodity.
But as nomadic trends in job sector rises, the communal infrastructure of a city becomes enormously important. The ability to acquire amicable environment will decide which cities will survive in future.
Time has come to balance the needs of people and the infrastructure. A city must hold the welfare of the people at the core of its reason d’etre. Citizens should not be stressed to live among themselves. City should be a place of joy and hope, from the density that has formed city in the first place.
We need to bring back the meaningful bliss of metropolis. We need to bring back flaneur, one who strolls around aimlessly buy enjoyably, observing life and his surroundings. City should encourage walking as a fundamental way to observe and experience life in metropolis.
The procedure of reviving flaneur follows three fundamental levels to complete the transformation of Seunsangga.
EXPERIENCE BLOCK – NEED FOR cognitive awareness
connectioN – PHYSICAL LINK AND VISUAL BONDing
WALKING – DEFINITION OF TYPES AND IMPLEMENTATION
